Only 6 hours from Quito, the Casa del Suizo Lodge is situated at the shore of the majestic Napo River at a pleasant high altitude. Above the little Quichua village of Ahuano the lodge overlooks vast areas of the surrounding Ecuadorian Amazon region. Near the Ecuadorian-Peruvian border in the heart of the Amazon wilderness lies the Kapawi Ecolodge & Reserve, only a 2 hours flight from Quito. This ecological project has set new standards for 'ecotourism' and has been awarded the Ecotourism Excellence Award in 2000. The lodge offers you 20 comfortable, recently renovated double rooms with terrace, a satellite phone, a small shop where you can purchase all necessary items for a stay in the jungle that you may have forgotten and as well products of the resident people, the Achuar, a well-equipped library, an inviting bar and an excellent restaurant serving local, international and vegetarian specialties. Furthermore, there is planned a "Interpretation Centre" for guests who are interested in getting to know the Achuar culture. The whole lodge is operated by solar energy and is the only one in Ecuador that is allowed to use the title “Ecolodge”. The term “untouched” can be interpreted by word here! In this nature reserve covering 7000km² you can enjoy the rain forest in its most pristine way, for example on hiking tours through the ethnic primary forest, canoeing trips on the partly wild river or directly in front of the facilities on the lagoon, bird watching activities – and especially a salt-licking basin for parrots - or during visits to the local communities. The Achuar, the natives of the region, offered the role model for the architectural concept of the lodge and they will overtake the administration and management in 2011 completely. About 50 miles from Puerto Francisco de Orellana (Coca), the nature reserve of 5,000 acres of the Sacha Lodge is idyllically situated at the Pilchicocha Lake. Due to its ideal location, the lodge is a paradise for all nature lovers, scientists and adventurers. The accommodations, 10 double huts with high roofs and shady terraces, are built with traditional material and offer every comfort without disturbing the rainforest atmosphere. The aim is to preserve the ecological balance – and by this, you can relax in your hammock without bad conscience. Enjoy excellent local and international dishes in the restaurant and recover in the bar or the cozy common room. Experience the numerous activities offered with a native and a professional bilingual (english/german/spanish) guide (in small groups with max. six people), such as canoeing tours, hiking trips through the jungle or animal watching from a special observation tower. This construction, built around a Kapok tree, is the only one of this kind in the Ecuadorian rainforest. Thanks to its height of 141 feet you can observe the tree tops in a 360° ankle. Other highlights that are offered by the Sacha Lodge are the unique butterfly house and the parrot lick but also the Canopy Bird Walk, a 900 feet long and 118 feet high – also unique – rope bridge directly above the roof of the jungle. The Yarina Lodge is located about 25 km from Coca away. This city
can be reached by bus or plane for example. From Coca the journey
continues by boat on the Napo River. It is about an hour, until
the Eco Lodge Yarina can be reached. The area of the Yarina Lodge
is around 550 hectare big and borders the Yasuni National Park.
A vast environment of primary forest can be found in this part of
