4 nights / 5 days (Friday to Monday)
Day 1: Arrival - Pilchicocha Lake - Birds and Butterflies -
Night hike
You arrive at the Sacha Lodge by 4 pm. Upon arrival, you will relax
in the black waters of the Pilchicocha Lake that is home to many
different kinds of fish and birds. After this, you will climb an
observation tower to see both, the world of the birds of the jungle
and the impressive sunset. Take a look into the butterfly house
afterwards and get an explanation about the meaning of the colors
of their wings. After the dinner, it is time for a nocturnal hike
through the Ecuadorian rainforest. Get to know animals that you
will not find to another time and another place. Alternatively,
you can go by boat to observe the black caimans with its orange
glowing eyes - as they float silently and slowly over the lake...
Day 2: Liana Trek - Canopy - Higueron Trek - Leoncillo Trek
Walk along the Liana Trek until you reach the Canopy from where
you have a spectacular view onto the roof of leaves of the rainforest
and the wonderful world of the birds that are home to that area.
The Canopy is a rigid hanging construction (one of only a few in
the world) in the middle of the private area of the Sacha Lodge.
With the construction, it is possible to get an individual insight
into the live above the top of the trees. Two of the towers have
an observation platform in 12 meters height. The hanging path connecting
the towers is in 36 meters height and 275 meters long. After this,
your guide will explain the different meanings and uses of medical
plants that have been used by the inhabitants of the rainforest
for over hundreds of years. The Higueron Trek leads you directly
into primary forest where huge Kapok and Fig trees rise majestically
above your heads. At the end of this journey, you will enjoy lunch
with a shadowy, chilly picnic area. Afterwards, you have the possibility
to walk along the shore of the Napo River or - a little more challenging
- walk along the Leoncillo Trek that will give you the chance to
see seldom monkeys. Both ways will finally meet at a meeting point
from where you walk back and take a boat ride to the lodge
Day 3: Lagartococha Trek - Canoe ride - Piranha fishing - Kapok
observation tower
After the breakfast, you will leave the lodge and start your walk
on the Lagartococha Trek that gives you the possibility to get to
know more about the local inhabitants and its way of living. Furthermore,
you will learn everything about their special relation to the forest,
including stories about ghosts and the „devils-man“
of their ancestors. Upon arrival at the Lagartococha Lake, you will
go on a relaxing canoe ride through natural swamp land; home to
anacondas, caimans and capybaras. On the other side of the lake,
most probably you will be confronted with Kapuzine monkeys and others
that play joyfully in the trees. After this exciting morning, your
very personal hammock invites you to stay for a little nap on your
private balcony. After the lunch, you will be confronted with piranhas,
those fish with sharp teeth – and you will be fishing them.
And please keep in mind: it is completely safe to bathe in the same
waters because piranhas never attack bathing people! About 4 pm
it is time for another trip into the jungle - some say, this is
the most scenic way: a quiet canoe ride through the flooded Amazon
forest. The silence is only disturbed by the noise of the monkeys.
Be prepared to see the shy river otter or the sloth! The journey
ends with a wooden construction around a Kapok tree. In 41 meters
height, the dazzling colors of the birds could be observed best.
Enjoy the sunset with a view onto the volcano Sumaco and most probably
other snow-covered Andean mountains! Afterwards, another unforgettable
experience awaits you: the nocturnal canoe ride through the rainforest
and the concert of the frogs and insects. Keep your eyes open for
the sight of caimans, bats and nocturnal birds. Finally, you will
arrive at Pilchicocha Lake and the welcoming lights of the Sacha
Lodge.
Day 4: Monkeys - Departure
Breakfast. Afterwards, you will go on your last little hike along
the shore to observe the monkey family that lives here. And then
it is already time to say good-bye to the Sacha Lodge.

Day 4: Parrot-Salt-Lick - Swimming/Butterflies - Pantano Trek
Today, you have the chance to see four different kinds of parrots
at the same time. The Sacha Lodge is only 30 minutes by motor boat
away from the Yasuni National Park where the Parrot-Salt-Lick awaits
you. You start at 6 am and then you will see the parrots in action
because the licking of salt neutralizes the acid balance that is
elevated because of innumerous fruits and leaves. After this colorful
encounter, you will get to know a Quechua that will share its -
since hundreds of years transmitted - way of living with you; its
traditions, daily activities and nutrition are on the schedule.
About 11 am, you will be back at the Sacha Lodge which gives you
enough time to bathe before lunch; or visit the butterfly house
another time and try to keep the colors with your camera. In the
afternoon, a hike along the Pantano Trek awaits you - it will show
you the different types of rainforest: primary and secondary forest
but also flooded forest and swamp areas. Furthermore, the path is
ideal for the observation of monkeys and birds. Your local guide
will share its knowledge with you and with this, the experience
will be lasting in your mind forever.
Day 5: Monkeys - Departure
Breakfast. Afterwards, you will go on your last little hike along
the shore to observe the monkey family that lives here. And then
it is already time to say good-bye to the Sacha Lodge.
Please take note that on request, also other days (with the exception
of Sunday because there are no flights) as arrival days will be
accepted. The only extra costs will be the transfer by boat when
there are less than 4 passengers arriving.
The perfect combination of comfort, nature and adventure!
