BIRD WATCHING

Ecuador is considered to be home to one of the highest diversity of birds in the world, especially in the cloud forests located in the Highlands. Bird-watchers are absolutely delighted in those unique areas, internationally recognised as hotspots of diversity.
Mindo area was designated an area of International Importance for Birds by Birdlife International in 1997. Sachatamia Lodge exists an enormous diversity of colibris.

From June to October, an amazing natural spectacle is available every day: the humpback whales, which come from the Antarctic zone during the mammal reproduction period, looking for the right place for breeding. In this time of the year these colossal animals remain near Isla de la Plata, in front of Puerto López, where visitors can enjoy a wonderful whale show. After several months delighting national and foreign tourists with their graceful sea dances, humpback whales leave Ecuadorian seas and come back home.
