Bernd Kubisch:
The islands that time forgot
The Sunday Telegraph, September 21th, 2003

|
The day on the isle of Espanola
begins with a multi-toned concert of animal sounds as the
first beams of the sun glint across the Pacific.
The first tourists leave their cruise ship to take a close
look at the animals, which live on this southernmost of the
Galápagos Islands, and the welcoming party makes its
presence known: sea lions grunt and roar; cormorants beep
and whistle.
Travel guide Walter Sotomayor spells out the rules for the
day: "Nobody must leave the track, touch an animal or
use a flash to take photos."....

Katharina Büttel:
A shore leave into primitive times? (Ein Landgang in die
Urzeit?)
Mitteldeutsche Zeitung, September 19th, 2003

|
The Galápagos islands are
the most famous attraction of Ecuador and most of the tourists
want to see them. They are also known as “Darwins zoo”
in the Pacific ocean. While leaving the boats and yachts, you
dunk into another world - the world of endemic animals, plants
and an impressive landscape. Here are living blue- and red-footed
bobbies, albatrosses, sea lions, giant tortoises and many more.
The animals are not afraid of the visitors. Since their existence
on Galápagos, the islands are 620 miles away from the
mainland and therefore they have lost their natural instincts
of having fear. |

Roswitha Bruder-Pasewald:
Enchanted empire near the equator? (Verzaubertes Reich
am Äquator?)
Badische Neueste Nachrichten, July, 5th/6th 2003

|
The author of this article speaks
about the unique Galápagos islands and the endemic
animals and plants. Human beings are only tolerated on these
magnificent islands.
When Charles Darwin arrived on the islands, he was unemotional
and far not impressed, but then, he discovered the evolution
theory and began to research.
Furthermore, the scribe speaks about endangered species like
the giant tortoise. With the objective of protecting her,
the Charles Darwin Research Station was founded. Unfortunately,
they could not help the tortoise “Lonesome George”,
the last representative of his species. |

On the road of vulcanoes (Auf der Strasse der Vulkane)
Trekker's World January/February 2003
 |
Cotopaxi and Chimborazo - only
two names and the hearts of hikers beat faster.
Herbert Konnerth is talking about a thrilling and stunning
rise to the peak of the Chimborazo. The first climb was realized
in 1880 by the English alpinist Edward Whymper. Before, the
famous Alexander von Humboldt tried to mount up to the peak
but failed. Climbing up to the Chimborazo or Cotopaxi demands
a good acclimatisation and experience in mountaineering.
After this trip, which was the highlight of the journey,
the author travelled a littlet through Ecuador and was really
impressed by the landscape and the people.
