About 620 miles from the Ecuadorian mainland, the famous Galápagos islands are situated. Rare and endemic animals live on the archipelago - they are the habitants of the islands and they are in the focus of all visitors.

Here, not human beings star but all animals like blue-footed and red-footed boobies, albatrosses, iguanas, sea lions and many more. Only five islands are inhabited by people.

Already Charles Darwin was impressed by these islands when he arrived in 1835. On the isle of Santa Cruz, the “Charles Darwin Research Station” is arranged, where special programs try to protect and save some species of animals and plants.

For the people of South America, Alexander von Humboldt is the actual discoverer of America and not Christopher Columbus. He climbed up to many volcanoes and mountains in South America making his way through the continent. And still, people use the same route to get from the north to the south - thanks to the Panamericana.

Ludwig Mario Niedermeier also describes the old town of Quito and the little town Otavalo, which is famous for an Indian market all over the world. The author gives tips and information about Ecuador and for a trip to the country.
