IMPORTANT INFORMATION

The village of Mindo is situated about 43.5 miles west of Quito. Directly underneath the subtropical mountainside - at a height of 4,101 ft.- you can find orchids, butterflies and more than 400 kinds of birds. The nature reserve Bosque Protector Mindo - Nambillo covers about 74 Sqare miles and stretches from the subtropical rain forest via the cloud forest to the walls of the Guagua Pichincha crater at a height of 13,125 ft.

Journey:
From Quito: the Coop. Flor de Val goes daily 2 to 4 times to Mindo. The journey lasts about 2 hours.
From Santo Domingo de los Colorados: Coop. Kennedy. Driving hours: 4.

Travel season:
A visit to the cloud forest is attractive all-year-round.The rainfall per year is about 78.7 Inches. The humid and nippy air, in combination with the rich offer of light that comes through the crown, ensures a growth of plants similiar to the rainforest of the lowlands.

ACTIVITIES

Information center:
Near the Parque Central you can find a little information center especially designed for tourists. You should not miss this! Good advice about all possible activities will be given at a glance.

Waterfalls:
In the mountains of the nature reserve Mindo - Nambillio are innoumerous waterfalls that invite the visitor to 'waterfall climbing' oder a nice little cooling. Among other htings, a trip to Cascada de Nambillo is worth it. The entrance fee of US$ 5 must be paid at the information center.

Inner Tubing/ Regatas:
An exciting departure on the Río Mindo by tied truck tires is possible. Providers are to be found in the village, lifejackets and helmets are often to be supplied.

Orchids and butterflies:
In the crossroad to the Parque Central, a little garden for butterflies and orchidshas been arranged. Next to various butterflies, colorful flowering plants like begonias, fuchsias, cranesbill and orchids are glowing.

Riding:
The scenic area of the cloudy forests can be discovered on the back of a horse as well.

Hiking:
Exciting routes where deep canyons must be crossed only with the help of a tightrope are just as well possible as guided tours about the nature and the different kinds of animals in this cloud forest.
